The Baukau Tour

The one day tour to Baukau (Baucau) and Venilale will take you along the north coast through the busiest road in the country – connecting its two main cities. On the way to Manatutu (Manatuto), the coast line will vary from the beach-side roads to the cliff edge ones, with a mandatory stop near the Subão for photographs. Manatutu (Manatuto) is a beautiful village on the coast, where you can easily find clay and pottery artefacts. From Manatutu (Manatuto) to Baukau (Baucau) the road goes along the plains with occasional hills where you can find Laleia with its rice paddies and Vemasse. Baukau (Baucau) is located on a plateau 350m high and has the biggest airport in the country. It is the second city largest city in the country, with many Portuguese influences, a big market and many palm trees and green-red acacia trees. Take some time to drive down to the beach as it is one of the most beautiful in the region. After a lunch in one of its many restaurants, drive up the mountain roads towards Venilale, just next to mounts Laritame and Mundo Perdido (Lost World). Take some time to appreciate the mountainous landscape and to go out for a walk. The sightseeing is impressive as these landscapes stretch for miles.
Head back to Dili (Díli) and stop for an afternoon swim at Metinaro Beach, one of the best beaches for snorkeling and diving in this region.
