The photographer Daniel J. Groshong just published the first ever coffee table book about Timor-Leste, “Timor-Leste Land of Discovery”, with the collaboration of the Turismo de Timor-Leste.
This book also have the contribution of the President of Timor-Leste, Xanana Gusmão, the Prime Minister, Mari Alkatiri, the Foreigner Affairs and Cooperation Minister and Peace Nobel Prize, José Ramos Horta, the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, and from the former United States of America President, Bill Clinton.
Only an exceptional photographer are able to immortalize daily moments, the art, living and traditions of the Timorese people, their faith and believes, and the beautiful landscapes, as they are shown on this book.

It was sent today the formal request to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste membership to the World Tourism Organization.
After the WTO’s Statutes ratification by the National Parliament, last November 11, followed by the publication on the Official Journal, the letter signed by the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste requesting the membership, was the last step from the Timorese authorities to conclude the joining process.
The request will now be present to the Executive Council, who will submit it to the next WTO General Assembly, to be held in November 2005, in Senegal.
With the Timor-Leste’s membership to WTO all the 8 countries of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community, namely, Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, São Tomé e Príncipe and Portugal will have a seat at the General Assembly. 09.03.2005 17:04
The Pacific Asia Travel Association on its PATA Gold Awards 2005 edition awarded Turismo de Timor-Leste on the CD ROM category, specifically with the CD ROM “Discover the World’s Newest Nation”.
This promotional CD ROM, offers information about Timor-Leste, with hundreds of photographs and videos, in five different sections: Travel the Country, Discover Diversity, Travel Guide, Get To Know Timor-Leste and Travel Now.
The CD ROM production was sponsored by Timor Telecom and the Portuguese bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos/BNU and was developed by GERTiL— Research Group for the Reconstruction of Timor-Leste (supported by the Portuguese Cooperation).

Turismo de Timor-Leste was one of the co-winners of the Wild Card Program, promoted by the IMEX Frankfurt, wining a free space at the Wild Card Pavillion on the 2005 edition, to be held in Frankfurt, from 19 to 21 April.
The Wild Card Program intends to promote 4 new destinations (countries or regions), which had never participated on major tourism events. The other three co-winners were Camaroon and Senegal, from Africa, and the region of Pau, in France.
On the 2004 edition, more than 2500 exhibitors, from 130 countries attended the IMEX Frankfurt, taking 13000 m² at the Messe Frankfurt (Exhibition Hall).
This IMEX Frankfurt is a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) exhibition where Timor-Leste will profit to make its presentation to the German market, one of the most important outgoing markets worldwide. 17.02.2005 17:42
By invitation from the Portuguese Ministry of Tourism, Turismo de Timor-Leste attended, by the second consecutive year, the Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa (Lisbon Tourism Fair), hold in the Portuguese Capital, from 19 to 23 January.
Telmo Correia, the Portuguese Ministry of Tourism, took long minutes in the Timor-Leste stand, where was welcomed by M. Pascolea Barreto, the Timorese Embassador, and by Mr. Miguel de Moraes Sarmento, the Tourism Advisor near the Government of Timor-Leste.
During the five day’s exhibition, it was visible the curiosity of professional trade and public about the recent tourism and country developments.
The presence of Turismo de Timor-Leste at the BTL 2005 was possible only with the support of the Portuguese Ministry of Tourism, the Portuguese Tourism Institute, Lisbon Internacional Fair and GERTiL (Research Group for the Reconstruction of Timor-Leste), supported by the Portuguese Cooperation. 17.02.2005 17:25
On September 22nd, during the PATA Travel Mart, the official tourism website was soft launched in its English version. Since October 8th, when both the Portuguese and English versions were posted online, this web page received 200078 hits and 4597 new visits, representing an average of 191 daily visits.
When the press release was distributed to the national and international media on October 12th, the number of hits went up to 33 thousand, generating 651 visits.
The origins of these hits came from a wide range of countries such as Portugal (28.59%), Australia (2.78%), Brazil (1.7%), as well as from the Russian Federation, Japan, Mexico, among others. Timor-Leste was responsible for 5.92% of total hits, with growing perspectives.

On November 11th the Timor-Leste National Parliament, in its plenary assembly session, ratified the statutes of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), taking another step in the membership process of Timor-Leste to this organization. The ratification voting resulted in 65 favourable votes, zero votes against and no abstentions. After promulgation by the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Ray Kala Xanana Gusmão, and consequent publication in the Jornal da República (official government paper), the Government will ask the WTO to welcome the World’s Newest Nation into the big international tourism family. This process will only be complete in September 2005, during the General Assembly being held in Senegal, with the approval of at least two thirds of the WTO Member States. 16.11.2004 10:48
